I Need My Fix

Hot, Tasty And Goes Down Smoothly

A year ago I would have laughed at you if you had told me I would need my giant cup of coffee every day.  Crave it like a man in the desert thirsts for water.  Before then, I was mostly a tea tipper.  I’d have a cup of coffee, here and there, when out with friends.

Then something happened on Facebook.  Every morning, one of my friends, an ex-coworker, would start her day by enticing us with the flavor of coffee she had that morning.  chocolate cherry, pumpkin spice, blueberry, mocha…the list goes on and on.  My mouth used to water imagining how the coffees tasted, and soon I gave in to my curiosity and purchased a few flavored coffees myself.

I’m not as adventurous as my friend, once I said hello to chocolate cherry, very vanilla, and mocha mess, I had no wish to try anything else.  Those three flavors were so good I found myself drinking coffee twice a day; in the morning and late afternoon.  I was told I have to cut the coffee out and it’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do.  Despite the warnings, I find myself creeping into the kitchen in the morning, one thought on my mind.  You can guess what that is.  My cat looks up at me with this look as if to say, “Girl you know better.”  And my reply is, “I’ll remember that next time I give you a chicken liver treat.”  He must understand, because he turns around and flounces out the kitchen in a huff.

So here I am, an addict, jonesing for my morning fix.  Yeah, yeah it’s not good for me, but how many things in life are good for anyone these days?  Should I blame her, the friend who flaunts her coffee flavors before our eyes every morning?  If I end up in rehab…maybe.

Let’s see, tomorrow I think I’m having…
